General Counsel Coaching and Mentoring

A general counsel for a multinational, multi-billion-dollar company compared being a general counsel to “riding a tiger every day” — and in truth, it is not a position for the faint of heart. It requires a whole host of skills, from leadership to management to the delicate art of diplomacy.

Rich Gorelick is uniquely qualified to consult general counsels at all sizes of companies and with various levels of experience. Whatever kind of general counsel assistance you or your clientele may require, Rich’s many years of coaching and mentoring experience can be of great benefit.

Chief Compliance Officer Coaching and Mentoring

Rich has almost two decades of experience building a compliance culture and function at a highly regulated public held company. He knows what it takes to create the architecture for a successful culture and program, how to align a program with ever-changing directives from governmental bodies and prosecutors, and to achieve buy-in with stakeholders at all levels of a corporation – from the board to the C-Suite to the rank and file. All that experience, along with decades of making judgment calls in the compliance arena and his company’s outstanding track record in this area, make Rich well-qualified to coach and mentor compliance executives.

Law Department Assessments

One critical function of the general counsel is to ensure that the law department provides timely, wise, cost-effective and proportional advice aimed at maximizing revenue and addressing risk to minimize losses. A general counsel’s broad area of responsibilities compels her to manage time, resources and systems carefully. Some general counsels work solo, others have small teams, and still others preside over big departments. In each case, the general counsel must figure out what skill sets are needed, which people to hire, and what type of systems and software to put in place.

Rich Gorelick has extensive experience at building and evolving the law and compliance departments of a highly regulated public company, on a global level, to address growth and risk. He can leverage that experience to help the general counsel team, working to ensure that the current structure works (and evolves) well or assisting in the creation of a new structure that can handle change and growth while still fitting within budgetary restrictions.

Compliance Department Assessments

Being a Chief Compliance Officer can be a thankless job, one in which you are expected to be all things to all people. It requires the toughness of a boxer and the dexterity of a ballerina. It’s hard at times to distinguish when you’re doing a good job from when you’re not.

Rich Gorelick can counsel leaders of compliances at all sizes of companies and with various levels of experience as to how to optimize their performance and their department’s. Rich’s many years of coaching and mentoring experience – as well as his experience in establishing and developing a compliance department -- can be of great benefit.
